Home & Away Star Celebrates 4 Years at the Helm of His Own Music & Acting School

Updated: Jul 13

In 2016, former Home & Away star Caleb Alloway established his own music & acting school. Why did he do it and what makes his school different from the many others?

Born in 1986, Caleb Alloway grew up in Ipswich, a large town near the City of Brisbane in Queensland. With 11 brothers and sisters, getting attention required a good deal of effort so it’s hardly surprising he was drawn to a career in acting. Like his siblings, his parents granted him one indulgence, and Caleb chose the piano. It was his solace and playing the piano unleashed a passion for music that was hard to contain. He completed a bachelor’s degree in Music (Piano and Grade 5 Trumpet) and while at university taught himself the Flute and Guitar. The Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) has awarded him with an Associate in Music (AMusA) and a Certificate of Performance (CMusA). As music teachers go, his qualifications place him at the top of his field.

When he finished his studies, his plan was to forge a career in acting which began on stage; appearing in a number of productions - the History Boys (Sydney Opera House), the Paris Letter (Darlinghurst Theatre Company) and Tony Kushner’s Angels in America (staged in Melbourne by Lukey Productions). From the stage he moved to television and 2 seasons on Channel 9's hit kids program the Imagination Train and was then cast in the highly acclaimed ABC courtroom television drama - Janet King. He got a break into film and made his debut on the big screen alongside Rachael Griffiths and Daniel Macpherson in the Sci-Fi film the Osiris Child: Volume 1. But Caleb is probably best known to Australians as Will Zannis, the manipulative character he played on Channel 7's Home and Away.

It was the need to earn an income and keep busy between acting jobs that ultimately led him to open Imperial Artistry. What began in 2016 with just 3 students now has over 120 weekly students, employs another 12 teaching professionals and has become one of Sydney's fastest growing music schools.

Starting his own School has allowed him to combine his love of music with his passion for nurturing and developing talent. His natural affinity with people of all ages, his formal education together with his experience make him one of the most qualified in the industry.

Located in Redfern, Imperial Artistry is close to public transport and easy for parents to access when collecting their children. The School offers a unique After School Care Program which is strongly supported by the Pre-Schools, Junior Schools and High Schools in the area.

Other than Acting and Music Theory, the lessons are private, and students received complete and total attention. Like its founder and owner, Imperial Artistry is inclusive and progressive. Rather than follow other Schools that adopt the doctrine of a specific teaching method without deviation, Imperial Artistry is governed by the needs of each individual student. They recognise that kids learn differently and for the best results the approach needs to be tailored accordingly. That means each student has the benefit of an individually designed course and unique lesson plan that complies to the required formal music examination and assessment standards.

While the Covid-19 lock-down was an unexpected shock, the School moved quickly to deliver lessons online so students could continue their lessons in the safety of their own homes. The experience prompted Caleb to undertake a review of the business. Never one to be complacent and always seeking ways to improve, he has since announced plans to add 3 new learning platforms to the School – Imperial Artistry Online, TV and Radio. He and his team are currently working with several experts to bring his vision to life.

The man who was himself reaching for the stars is now helping others to reach them.
